Ruthie is grumpy and unhappy when she didn't get everything she wanted for her twelfth birthday in the little town of Oxford, Connecticut. Ruthie's mom gave her a pair of shiny gold earrings which mysteriously disappears. Ruthie accuses her best friend Amanda for stealing them. Amanda insists she didn't.
