Katie has a dog she loves. Katie and her dad adopted Hunt from the local animal shelter, and they have become best friends (H is for Hunt).

Her brother, Paul, has a beagle puppy who showed up one day when he was playing baseball alone and was looking for someone to play with. Paul and Barky have also become best friends (B is for Barky).

Annie is happy for both Katie and Paul, but she longs for a pet of her own.

On Halloween, a black cat unexpectedly comes into her life, and her own dream comes true.
