This book continues with a character found in Luke Faces the Truth. Macie lives a vicarious lifestyle before losing her young son to a congenital heart defect. Never being much of a mother, when she finds his Christmas gift sitting on her kitchen table, she realizes that she must change her careless ways or sink into a pit of depression from which none can draw her out.
