In 1880 Texas, Samuel, a small town preacher, has his world turned upside down by the murder of his wife. His anger develops a root of bitterness which grows into a compulsion for vengeance. Under the guise of a US Marshal's badge, he feels justified to execute his personal vendetta against these brutal killers. After years of futile searching Samuel befriends Jason, a 15-year-old, with troubles of his own. Samuel tries to guide the boy onto the right trail, but Jason always seems to have a will of his own. Only after Jason is captured by ruthless outlaws are his eyes opened.

An unexpected encounter with a man from Samuel's past proves to be a life-changing experience for the outlaw Mace and his relationship to God.

Further complicating Samuel's life is a budding romance with the attractive waitress Charlotte.
